Boats
Boats blockade the Kennet & Avon Canal at Pewsey Wharf .

Weather was awful, the rain poured and the wind blew! Our banner acting as a sail and trying to take the boat sideways. Nevertheless, 9 boats with their hardy crews arrived at Pewsey Wharf on the Sunday morning. Others had planned to come but engine gremlins and a tree in the water interfered with their plans.

It was difficult to count visitors as they didn't tend to hang around for long in the rain, but we had the support of canoeists and some walkers, including families with their young children. Others included an elderly gentleman who had watched the Kennet & Avon restored from a muddly ditch into the lovely waterway it is today. He was our first visitor and stayed for a large part of the morning.

MP and campaigners
Michael Ancram MP joins walkers, boaters, canoeists, dog walkers and anglers.

Michael Ancram, MP for the area joined us at lunch time.

Not as many signatures to the petition as we would have liked, as the ink ran and the paper got very soggy!

The hot dogs and sausage rolls provided by club member, Gill Harris, were very well received by those supporters who had turned out.

That people bothered to turn out in such attrocious weather is indicative of the strength of feeling in this area.
