The Newbury protest was a great success.

We had around 10 boats and about 100 protestors. These covered a wide range of waterways users including cyclists, canoeists and walkers.

Campaigners with placards
All Waterways users were represented. Some went to more effort than others to identify themselves!!

Newbury MP Richard Benyon is in the centre.

Local MP Richard Benyon attended and spoke well to protestors and media. The latter put in a good effort with both local print media and Meridian TV who led with the protest on their evening news ( go to http://www.itvlocal.com/meridian/news and select Saturday Thames Valley today.) That TV spot got the message out.It included footage of the breached weir at Sheffield Mill which demonstrated the vulnerability of the canal.
